TANG - The Asian Food Emporium

As a Cambodian student living in Melbourne, Tang Supermarket has become my go-to haven for all things Asian snacks and groceries. As a student, this is a game-changer! I can fill my basket with a variety of goodies without breaking the bank. Large selection of Asian products. If you're looking for Malaysian delights, this is a good place to find them - have found things I couldn't find in other Asian stores here such as 3 in 1 Milo satchets, fish curry pastes, 3 in 1 cereal drinks etc. Pricing is very reasonable, definitely one of the cheaper ones in the area. They have a loyalty program too if you're going to be a regular.

Huge selection of dried noodles and instant noodles, frozen bao, snacks (all sorts including classics like dried orange peel), condiments and sauces. Also a more limited but very appreciated selection of asian beauty products. Very good prices! Note I think there’s a card surcharge. Wish I could say I’ll be back but I’m not based in Melbourne.

I have been in love with this place for years and even more so since their renovation. Tangs is THE place to go in Melbourne if you want authentic Asian ingredients and once you start cooking with authentic ingredients you’ll be hooked. Photos below are some of my favourite ingredients I can find at Tangs and have a hard time finding elsewhere. It is always extremely busy with long lines, but don’t let that scare you off! Long lines are a sure sign of perfection and the staff there are experts on moving people through quickly so the lines move extremely fast!

First counter didn’t accept cash. I was directed to second counter even second counter was not ready either. The customer behind me was directed to the second one as well. Third counter was then available and called for the next one. I quickly picked up my items and rushed to the third counter and the customer behind me already there. I explained that I was in front of her but the counter staff served her first with an excuse that she has only one item for checkout. What’s the purpose of queuing then ?
